Austin was sooooo good at Walmart. We walked up and down the toy aisle looking at everything and pushing all the buttons. We oooed and awwed over all the cool toys and not one time did he ask for a toy or throw any kind of fit. I was so impressed and I couldn't wait to take him to Chick-fi-la as his reward for behaving so well at the store.
The lady at the checkout was just starting to scan our things when I heard it. The first clap of thunder and then like a huge whoosh that didn't stop. It was raining. It was pouring down rain. We stood in front of the exit door at Walmart for a few minutes. The lady next to me was checking the weather on her phone and she said it wasn't going to let up any time soon.
I wasn't going to hang out in Walmart all afternoon with a four year old and 7 month old, so we ran for it. Well actually I ran for it. The boys were duck and cover in the buggy. We were all drenched to the bone. When we got home Austin took a warm bath and we all changed our clothes.
I felt so guilty about not going to Chick-fil-a, that I told Austin we could put on our rain boots and get our umbrellas and go back to the chicken place with the play place. I thought he would be so happy, but for a change he was a voice of reason. He looked outside and said "let's wait for the rain stops." Smart boy :)
So a couple hours later, we headed back out and made it to Chik-fil-a. We ate and he played his little heart out. He even made some friends.
Stuffing his face, as usual!
Making friends!
Look at me, Mommy!!
This is what Jackson did the entire time we were at Chick-fil-a.
I didn't want to waste a trip back to town, so we also strolled around a few stores nearby. While checking out at the last store I grabbed a diet coke. Austin then tells me he is thirsty and so he looks in the cooler and grabs a water. If you don't know Austin then let me explain how strange this is. He is almost a 100% apple juice drinker. I would say about 98% of the time that is all he will drink. Occasionally, he will drink a Capri sun, or some sort of red juice at the fast food restaurants we visit on a regular basis. So hearing him ask for a bottle of water was quite a shocker.
Another strange tidbit about Austin is that he will not drink without a straw or a cup with a sippy lid. I don't know why, but he just won't. So after he asks for a bottle of water, I tell him we don't have a straw. He looks at me and says, "we have straws at home." like duh. So I buy it, thinking I would end up drinking this water bottle.
While loading everybody and everything in the car, Austin finds his straw from his juice cup in the car. Problem solved, now he can drink his water. I hate that I didn't take a picture of him drinking water. It could be years before we see that again. Anyway, it didn't last long because not 2 minutes later I go to pull out into traffic and the water bottle falls and completely empties out onto the floor. Of course he cried and again I felt bad for him. Bad luck strikes again.
Really for the few bad luck things that happened, good things happened as well. In fact now that I have laid it all out, it seems there was more good than bad for this bad luck Monday.
aahahahaah i am loving the let's wait for a rain break! smart boy!
